The Classic Seiko Prospex Dive Watches

Seiko’s Prospex collection is known for its high-quality diving timepieces, sports chronographs, and tool watches for outdoor activities. The collection is divided into five groups: Sea, Land, Speedtimer, LX Line, and Street Series, each with its own unique features and designs.

Seiko Prospex Sea

Seiko Prospex collection began in 1965 with the launch of their first diver’s watch. This watch was able to resist water up to 150 meters and was tested during the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition. Since then, Seiko has developed several types of diver’s watches including those used for scuba diving and professional diving.

Seiko is a company that has made significant innovations in submersible watches. They were the first to produce a professional diving watch in titanium. Seiko has developed several features to enhance diving timepieces, including an original dial design for optimal legibility in all conditions, an L-shaped gasket for improved water resistance, a torque control bezel, an outer case protector, and an accordion polyurethane strap.

Seiko’s Diver’s watches are both reliable and affordable, making them a popular choice worldwide. Many models have earned nicknames due to their unique designs, including Turtle, Tuna, Monster, Shogun, Sumo, Samurai, Sea Urchin, Arnie, Bottle Cap, Starfish, and Spork.

Seiko Prospex Land

You may have heard of the iconic Seiko Turtle models, part of Seiko’s iconic diving model collection. But what if a watch with that case design is aimed at adventure on land? In comes the… tortoise! The Seiko Prospex Land Tortoise SRPH17K1 features the iconic Turtle case shape but comes fitted with a compass bezel, to be more suited for conquering land. Although we do need to mention this watch can still withstand water, in fact it can deal with depths up to 200m, which is still very respectable.

The watch is built for comfort with it’s 42.4mm case, 45.2mm lug-to-lug distance, mere 12mm thickness and crown positioned at 4 o’clock, it has all the right boxes ticked to be unobtrusive when you wear it. Other practical features include a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, great LumiBrite lume, and an in-house produced Seiko Cal. 4R35 mechanical (automatic) movement.

Whenever you change a classic design or built upon it, it makes you vulnerable to criticism and feedback. Many people love the Turtle for its rich history, comfort and just being an amazing watch. With the Tortoise Seiko took a risk, but objectively it’s a great, handsome watch that will prove to be a great wrist companion in many settings.
