Zenith was founded by Georges Favre-Jacot, a clockmaker of 22 years of age. The company was established in 1865 and distinguished itself from other watchmakers by creating its own movements. Within 10 years, one-third of the Le Locle, Switzerland population was employed by Zenith which was manufacturing pocket watches at the time. The company has been winning awards for its capabilities as a watchmaker as early as 1896 when it won a gold medal at the Swiss National Exhibition. Today, Zenith watches are still extremely popular and sought after.
