New Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel Collection
New Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel Collection
There is no longer a necessity to introduce the Luminor or its Marina variant. Because of its sandwich dial, Safety Lock crown protection, and cushion-shaped casing, it may be the most recognizable watch ever created by Officine. It has rarely changed over the years despite being around for decades. Even though the bulky design is no longer shocking, several fresh references have recently been added to the collection. A casing made of what the firm refers it as “a revolutionary metal,” but not actually new models. The new Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel Collection includes the following models: PAM01157, PAM01356, and PAM01358.
For good reasons, eco-friendly practices and sustainable initiatives are spreading across all industries. Electric vehicles are becoming more prevalent, and recycled materials are being used to make clothing more frequently. Even the watchmaking industry has begun to adopt this trend, with numerous projects aimed at ocean conservation or watch parts made primarily of recycled straps and packaging. In a bold statement, Panerai today declares a “goal to bring more circular processes to the world of watchmaking” along with the introduction of a new line.

Panerai introduces watches “made of recycled-based materials, amounting to the 58.4% of the total weight of the watch,” implemented on a new series of vintage Luminor Marina timepieces, as part of the collection shown at Watches & Wonders 2021. A “recycled-based steel alloy” was intended to be created for the dial, crown protection module, and casing. This is referred to by the company as “one of the most impressive technical achievements in the history of the brand.” Although the brand asserts that its eSteel satisfies the same criteria as conventional stainless steel cases, we’ll let you decide whether or not that claim is accurate.
Instead, let’s focus on these three new allusions. The PAM01157, PAM01356 and PAM01358 are very traditional Luminor Marinas, matching much of the design cues and characteristics with conventional stainless steel models like the PAM01313, save from this unheard-of alloy. This entails a traditional cushion-shaped casing with dimensions of 44mm in diameter and 15.45mm in height, which is mostly brushed with a polished bezel, the recognizable Safety Lock crown protection system (also made of eSteel), and 300m water resistant. The crown is also rubberized in the same color as the dial.

These Luminor Marina dials have the usual Panerai sandwich architecture, which consists of a two-plate construction with the lower plate being coated in Super-LumiNova and the upper plate having cut-outs to display the numbers and markings. The three dial colors for these new watches—Blu Profondo, Grigio Roccia, and Verde Smeraldo—all have a fashionable gradient look. The latter is a boutique-only edition. The color gradient is applied from 12 to 6 o’clock rather than in the traditional radial pattern.
The new Panerai Luminor Marina eSteel versions utilize the in-house calibre P.9010, one of the brand’s well-known movements, inside the case, concealed by a sturdy caseback. Two barrels in this automated movement provide a cozy 72- or 3-day power reserve. This watch’s quick-setting hour hand, which can be adjusted in one-hour steps either forward or backward, and simultaneous date adjustment are useful features, especially when traveling.
The new PAM01157, PAM01356 and PAM01358 are all worn on straps made of recycled textile that match the dial and are secured with an eSteel trapezoidal pin buckle. The box is made of recycled materials and comes with a second strap as well.
